About me

Hi again — here's the longer version.

Portrait of Janahan Gnanachandran
the imperfect perfectionist

I'm Janahan Gnanachandran — a builder, learner, explorer, dad and creator based in Houston (Cypress), Texas. By day I lead solutions architecture work in data, AI and cloud, helping teams in engineering, construction, real estate and transportation turn messy problems into systems that ship. I write Janalytics, a newsletter of practical data and AI ideas, and I've photographed the world as Janagraphy since 2012. I'm a private pilot, a family-first dad, and a self-described imperfect perfectionist: I care about getting things right, and I've learned that shipping beats polishing. This site is where all of it lives.

I've always been the person who wants to know how things work — and then wants to build a better version. That curiosity pulled me into data and geospatial analytics early, and it has kept me there through every wave since: cloud, machine learning, and now practical AI.

Today I lead solutions architecture work across data, AI and cloud. Most of my days are spent with teams in industries that build the physical world — engineering, construction, real estate and transportation — figuring out where technology actually helps and where it's just noise. I wrote a book on geospatial analytics because I wanted the guide I wish I'd had, and I started Janalytics to keep sharing what I learn, one practical issue at a time.

Outside of work, I'm a dad first. Family is the centre of everything I do, and most of my best ideas show up on walks with the kids or late at night after they're asleep. I earned my private pilot license because I wanted to do something that scared me a little, and I've carried a camera since 2012 — those photos live on Janagraphy, and the personal ones live here in Dear Diary.

I call myself the imperfect perfectionist. I care deeply about craft, and I've also learned that waiting for perfect means never starting. So I build in public, learn out loud, and try to be a little better than yesterday. If something here resonates, say hello — I'd love to hear from you.

What I'm about

Five things I live by.

Tap a card to read more.

  • FamilyPeople at home first.

First in my time and my attention. Everything else is built around them, not the other way round.

  • GrowthBetter than yesterday.

Every day. Small, steady improvements compound into a life I'm proud of.

  • ConnectionDepth over surface.

Honesty, love and real conversations — I'd rather know a few people well than many people barely.

  • CourageAct before you feel ready.

Bold risks, taken thoughtfully. Learning to fly taught me that confidence comes after the first step, not before it.

  • GratitudeEvery day is a gift.

Being alive, healthy and surrounded by people I love is never something to take for granted.

    Janagraphy begins

Started photographing the world and sharing it at janagraphy.com.

  2. Year to come

    Into geospatial analytics

Found my corner of data: maps, places and the patterns they hide.

  3. Year to come

    Became a dad

The best promotion I've ever had.

  4. Year to come

    Published my geospatial analytics book

The guide I wished I'd had when I started.

  5. Year to come

    Private pilot license

Did the thing that scared me. Still the best view of Texas.

  6. Year to come

    Solutions architecture leadership

Leading teams that bring data, AI and cloud to industries that build the physical world.

  7. Year to come
